Sergeant’s Arm Badges

Sergeant’s of the 17th Lancers wore the metal regimental badge on their right sleeve from the early 1860s. These two badges are rare examples. The one on the right is hallmarked on the top of the skull; Brent & Parker, Birmingham 1905. The one on the left is in heavy diecast unmarked silver. The badge was called a motto and these two examples have different styles of draped scroll inscribed OR GLORY. They were worn by sergeants and staff sergeants on the stripes, and by Warrant Officers on the forearm in the 19th and 20th centuries, but corporals did not have them until after 1900.
