Drumhorse and Mounted Band 1840

In this print by M A Hayes, the mounted band is seen from behind, and the drumhorse brings up the rear. The drum banners are of black velvet and simply emblazoned with the deaths head and motto. The grey horses have embroidered shabraques and white sheepskins with a red edge. The jackets are still red despite the fact that William IV had died in 1837 and the army was in the process of returning to blue-coated light cavalry. The lancers in the background have black horsehair plumes on their czapskas, but the band and trumpeters are distinguished by their red plumes.
