Drumhorse 1904

The 17th Lancers were stationed at Piershill Barracks, Edinburgh when this photo was taken in 1904. The drumhorse is a grey and has a white throat plume added to the bridle. The drum banners, seen in the band photo, have the battle honours added but are not clearly visible. The drummer displays medals for the recent South African War but he does not have a pouch-belt as this was discontinued for the cavalry in 1902.
