Cap Badge

The silver cap badge of the 17th Lancers is the skull and cross bones with the motto OR GLORY. The first word of the regimental motto is implied in the deaths head emblem. The badge is referred to as a ‘motto’. It commemorates the death of General James Wolfe in 1759, the year that the regiment was raised as the 17th Light Dragoons (initially 18th). This badge dates from the early 20th century when the peaked forage cap was adopted.
