5th Dragoon Guards

Officer's Helmet Badge 1871

The dragoon guards wore yellow metal helmets from 1871 while the dragoons wore white metal. The star of the DG badges therefore had to be silver. The centre of this badge had a simple silver 5 with the regimental title in a garter in gilt metal. Other ranks had the white metal 5 on a black background and the universal Honi Soit Qui Mal y Pense on the garter, all on a simplified white metal star.
