A C Curell

Lieutenant-Colonel Curell is seen here in 1927 photographed with sergeants of the 8th Hussars, all wearing medals from the Great War. He is moustached and sits next to Captain and Adjutant A G Watson. Curell is mentioned in the Regimental History as having helped in the attempt to save Private Hague from drowning in India. On 30th October 1912 Lieutenant E G Weldon dived into the river to try and help Private Hague who was in difficulty. He was unable to save him, and Lieutenant Curell made great efforts to retrieve the body, but without success. Weldon was awarded a medal by the Royal Humane Society and Curell received the Society's testimonial on vellum.
