Queen's Own Hussars

Drumhorse Shabraque

The elaborately embroidered shabraque worn on the drumhorse of the QOH emblazons the 40 battle honours, half on one side and half on the other. Unfortunately they are illegible in this reproduction. But the QOH is clear enough as is the badge which combines the QO cypher of the 7th and the silver horse of the 3rd. The crown is the guelphic type that was used in the 3rd Hussars in the late 19th century. The front of the shabraque has Queen Victoria's cypher and the guelphic crown. A full leopard skin covers the shabraque, with a blue dog-tooth edge.
