Helmet Badge 1812

The Queen's Bays were the first of the heavy cavalry regiments to receive the new helmet that replaced the cocked hat in 1812. The front plate was of brass for the men and gilding metal for officers. The cypher is for George III with the Hanoverian crown above. The regiments had similar helmets except for the inscription above the peak which here says: 2ND OR QUEEN'S DRAGOON GUARDS.
