| This photo was taken in 1879 and shows Mr Jones in pre-1880 uniform as his rank badge is on his collar. It is not clear if it is a star or a crown. A star indicated 2nd Lieutenant and a crown indicated lieutenant. He would have risen from the ranks, and this is evident from his advanced age. He retired in 1879 because the riding master from 23 July 1879 was Henry Andrew Hughes, who became an honorary captain in 1889. |
