The design of this plate is disappointingly plain for such a distinguished regiment. It was worn by senior officers who carried their swords on a white waist belt rather than slung from a shoulder belt. It can be seen in the photo of Lieutenant-Colonel Priestley in 1866. This belt plate is from a Bosley catalogue which erroneously calls it a dirk belt plate. The dirk belt at that time had a circular buckle. |
