The Gordons

Drummer 1914

The full dress worn by this drummer was put aside for the next four years and replaced by khaki service dress. This illustration by Simkin is poorly reproduced but it allows us to see the fly plaid worn by other ranks of the Gordons, as well as other highland regiments. It was a piece of tartan material stitched to a belt worn under the doublet. The falling end was brought up and attached to the button on the shoulder strap by means of some green tape that was ornamented with a green silk rosette.
