The Gordons

Drum-Major 1990

The piper green no1 dress that replaced the full dress scarlet doublet is worn here by the drum-major of the Gordon Highlanders, 4 years before they were absorbed into the Highlanders. There are some additions to his uniform that give it an overly fussy appearance. Most obviously, the drummers plaited yellow cords which serve no practical purpose, and the officer style gold shoulder cords with the Gordons black lines intertwined. The drum badge on his right sleeve which has a wreath around it now, and the large Gordons badge above it also add to the fussy look.
