The Gordons

The future King Edward VII became Colonel-in-Chief of the Gordon Highlanders on 11th June 1989 at the age of 47. He had been the Honorary Colonel of the 3rd Battalion 92nd Gordon Highlanders (Royal Aberdeenshire Militia) since 20th Nov 1872. He died on 6th May 1910. The photo shows him in highland civilian dress.

Edward was the Colonel-in-Chief of 14 British regiments and 6 overseas regiments. He was also Honorary Colonel of 12 British Regiments and 12 Indian and overseas regiments.
