Hector Macdonald wears the uniform of an officer in the Egyptian Constabulary. He left the Gordon Highlanders in 1885 and joined the Constabulary to remain in Egypt and Sudan. A year before he joined them, this unit, commanded by Valentine Baker a disgraced ex-10th Hussar officer, had been humiliated at the first battle of El Teb. Macdonald served with them from 1885-1888. He remained serving in the Sudan until after the battle of Omdurman in 1898. |
