Lieutenant Colonel James Bowder OBE

Lieutenant-Colonel James Bowder, commander of the 1st Battalion The Grenadier Guards, was made an OBE for services in Afghanistan at the investiture ceremony on 20 May 2013. He was in command on the day that Lance Corporal James Ashworth carried out his brave actions that won him posthumously the VC. Speaking of L/Cpl Ashworth's VC, he said: 'I speak for the whole regiment, the regimental family and the broader Army - we could not be more proud that this brave, capable young man has received such high national recognition.' In 2012 the Grenadier Guards handed over to 40 Commando Royal Marines who have since then continued with the progress made by Lt-Col Bowder's battalion at Combined Force Nahr-e Saraj (North).
