Major Martin David MC

In March 2008 the Commanding Officer of the Grenadier Guards in Afghanistan, Lt-Col Hatherley, recommended Major David for the Military Cross with this citation: 'As The Captain of The Queen's Company his determination, bravery and inspirational leadership whilst leading from the front inspired the Afghan Battalion he was mentoring to ever greater feats of military prowess resulting in a consistently defeated enemy.' Major David featured in a Panorama special called Taking on the Taliban in which the cameras followed the Grenadiers in their operations for 6 months in 2007. The programme captured some of the fiercest close quarter combat fought by British troops in over half a century. There was a follow-up programme called Back on the Home Front which was shown on BBC One on 9 Jun 2008.
