The King's Royal Rifle Corps

Other Ranks Helmet Badge 1878-81

Although this blacked brass badge pre-dates the period we are dealing with, it continued to be worn long after 1881. In that year regimental numbers were supposed to have been discontinued but this badge has 60 in the middle. Proof that it was worn after 1881 is to be found in Riflemen in Marching Order c1890 . The badge that can be seen in that photo has the distinctive wavy scrolls above and below the Maltese Cross. The top scroll is inscribed PENINSULA and the lower one has the motto CELER ET AUDAX.
