Lt-Col Buchanan-Riddell


R G Buchanan-Riddell died a hero's death at Spion Kop during the Boer War. He was leading the assault of the Twin Peaks in January 1900 when he was wounded. He insisted on carrying on but was shot through the head. He joined the regiment from the Militia in 1875 and was appointed Musketry instructor of the 4th Battalion 1878 to 1883. He served in the first Boer War and commanded the 1st Battalion in the 1899-1902 war.
