Lieut J H S Dimmer VC


On 12th Nov 1914 at Klein Zillebeke, Belgium, Lieutenant Dimmer, of the 2nd Battalion KRRC, went on working his machine gun during an attack. Although he was hit 5 times he stuck to his post until his gun was destroyed. His award was gazetted very quickly on the 19th Nov. His was one of eleven VCs won in the battle of Ypres.

John Henry Stephen Dimmer was born on 37 Gloster Road in Lambeth on 9th Oct 1883. He reached the rank of Lieut-Col but died At Marteville, France on 21st Mar 1918. He was buried in Vadencourt British Cemetery in France.
