The Northumberland Fusiliers

Drummer c1910

The tropical service dress worn during World War 1, as seen in this photo of the band of 2/7th Battalion in Egypt, had turn down collars buttoned up to the neck. Brown leather waist-belts with snake clasps are to be seen on the other ranks while officers have Sam browne belts. The Wolseley helmets are adorned with red and white roses for St George's Day. The men standing at the ends of the front row are side drummers with leather drum carriages over their right shoulder. The tall bass drummer stands at the back on the left. Buglers can be identified by the green string slung over the left shoulder.
