Lance-Corporal Thomas Bryan VC


On 9th April 1917 near arras in France, during an attack, Bryan, though wounded, went forward alone in order to silence a machine gun which was inflicting much damage. He worked his way along the communication trench, approached the gun from behind, disabled it and killed two of the team. The results obtained by Lance-Corporal Bryan's action were very far reaching.

Thomas Bryan was born in Stourbridge, Worcs on 21st Jan 1882. He served in the 25th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. He died in Doncaster on 13th Oct 1945.
