The Northumberland Fusiliers

Colours, 2nd Battalion 1906

This photo of the Colour party was taken in Plymouth in 1906 on 23rd April, St George's Day. The King's Colour, on the left is based on the Union Flag and the Regimental Colour, on the right was by this time restored to the gosling green colour, since 1899. The small Union Flag was in the upper corner and in the centre was the St George and Dragon motif, the motto beneath and the title surrounding it. Around this was the Union wreath of roses, thistles and shamrock. The corner devices of the slipped rose cannot be seen here, neither can the battle honours.

The Colours are carried by two officers of the 2nd Battalion who have a large gilt regimental badge on their Colour belts. The three Colour Sergeants carry their rifles at the slope.
