Captain Clement Robertson VC

Captain Robertson was an officer of the Queen's Royal West Surreys attached to the Tank Corps. On 4th Oct 1917 he led his tanks in an attack which he had been planning and preparing for three days. He had carefully reconnoitered the route to be taken and on the day led the tanks on foot. This of course was a very dangerous act but it was the only way to ensure that the tanks reached their objective. The enemy fire was intense and he, inevitably, was shot and died that day. He was buried at Oxford Road Cemetery, Ypres in Belgium. He was only 27.
