Maj-General Sir Rohan Delacombe KCMG KCVO KBE CB DSO



Sir Rohan was the last British governor of the State of Victoria in Australia, from 1963 to 74. He was born on 25th Oct 1906 and joined the 1st Battalion Royal Scots in 1926. He was commanding officer of the 8th battalion in 1944 at the Battle of Normandy and was placed in command of the 2nd battalion in Italy. He was a staff officer in Malaysia from 1945 to 47 and a brigadier commanding 5th brigade from 1950 to 53.

He was in command of the British army of occupation in Berlin from 1959 to 62 and was very involved with Spandau Prison where Rudolf Hess was kept. He was appointed Colonel of the Royal Scots on 1st Jan 1956 and while he served as Governor in Victoria he was made honorary Colonel of 1st Armoured Regiment of Australia. The photo shows him in 1971. He died on 10th Nov 1991.
