The Yeomanry

Captain, 1861

In 1861 a new dark blue shako was worn to replace the red one. 'The cap lines were arranged in a less contrived manner and the black cock feathers remained as before. 'The officer in this illustration has a new style jacket with a more elaborate braiding on the cuff. 'This is the Austrian knot as used on the regular cavalry tunics, and has circlets of braid all around to indicate the rank of captain. 'Also the olivets down the front have replaced the gilt buttons. On his collar are badges of rank which were not there on the previous pattern. 'At this stage he has a plain black sabretache slung from a black leather waist-belt.'
