Private, Dismounted Stable Dress c1890

The undress uniform for other ranks had changed very little since 1865. This private is in the blue uniform with red collar and white cords and trouser lace. In mounted order he would wear breeches and knee boots. He has a blue cap with white cap-band and white gloves. His sword is slung from two white leather slings attached to a hidden waist-belt. In the regular cavalry scabbards with two fixed rings were adopted c1885 but this man has the earlier type. His long white sword knot is wound around the hand guard.
