Officer’s Shako Badge 1830

The initials KCYC stand for King’s Cheshire Yeomanry Cavalry, the title of the regiment from 1826. This style of badge was worn on the bell-toped shako, in this case, an officer’s shako as can be seen in the 1828 equestrian portrait of Sir John Leicester by James Ward. But the royal cypher in the middle of the garter is that of King William IV who came to the throne in 1830.
