Sabretache Badge c1840

Bridle Ornaments Officers of the Cheshire Yeomanry were wealthy enough to equip themselves with saddlery and tack that included regimental badges on the head-band bit and breast plate. These bi-metal badges were inscribed EARL OF CHESTERS YEOMANRY CAVALRY encircling the silver Prince of Wales’s plume which was also the crest of the Earl of Chester since the Prince and the Earl were the same person. The ear boss had no crown above but the item on the left, either the bit boss or the breast-plate, has the Guelphic crown above.
