Piers Egerton-Warburton


Piers Egerton-Warburton was born on 22 May 1839, the eldest son of Rowland Eyles Egerton and Mary Brooke. His father Rowland, one of the well-known Cheshire Egerton family, assumed the name Warburton when he inherited the estates of his great uncle Sir Peter Warburton. Piers was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford, graduating with a BA in 1861. He was MP for Mid-Cheshire from 1876 to 1885. He married Hon Antoinette Saumarez daughter of the 3rd Baron Saumarez in 1880. They had 2 sons and 4 daughters. He joined the Cheshire Yeomanry as a captain on 10 June 1865 and was Lieutenant-Colonel Commandant of the Cheshire Yeomanry from 18 Mar 1891 with the rank of Honorary Colonel. He relinquished command to the Earl of Harrington on 22 April 1899. The photo shows him in the blue uniform of the Cheshire Yeomanry, with red collar and cuffs and silver cord and braid. Piers Egerton-Warburton died on 24 Mar 1914.
