Dress Sabretache 1824

A detail from James Ward’s painting of Sir John Leicester commanding the King’s Cheshire Legion contains this image of a dress sabretache which has a black cloth face, silver lace edge and George IV’s cypher. A Hanoverian crown is embroidered at the top, with a scroll underneath inscribed with the regimental title. The slings are attached to his sword belt, which is silver with a red central stripe.
