Dress Sabretache, First Pattern 1849 - 1856

There are two patterns of dress sabretache for this short period, of which this is probably the first. The title Earl of Chester’s was revived in 1849, having been dropped in 1814 in favour of The Prince Regent’s. This pattern is more ornate, having embroidered oak leaves and acorns around the Prince of Wales plume. The silver lace around the edge also has the oak leaf pattern. The Earl’s coronet at the top is embroidered in gold and colours.
