Captured Boer Families

The raid on Boshoff’s Farm ended with another farm, which contained dynamite, being burned to prevent the storage of food and armaments for the fighting Boers. This illustration of a Boer family points up the difficulties faced by the soldiers as well as the tragedy of war. Any destruction of a farm must have caused the displacement of Boer civilians. In the type of warfare experienced by the British in South Africa, it became clear that all Boers were the enemy, whether civilian or soldier and had to be escorted to a secure prison camp.
