Dettingen

Harry Payne’s painting of the King’s Horse at Dettingen shows a trooper struggling with a French cuirassier to capture their standard. This incident is not mentioned in Michael Mann’s history of the regiment, or in Philip Browne’s letters. The more famous fight for the Standard was Trooper Brown’s recovery of the lost Standard of his regiment, the 3rd Dragoons, for which he was knighted in the field by King George II.
