Royal Review 1796

King George III, dressed in the uniform of a field marshal, raises his hat to salute the regiments parading for his benefit. The King’s Dragoon Guards and the Queen’s Bays both attended the review having both served in the Duke of York’s campaign in France and Flanders. They were stationed at Romford in Essex and marched to the review which was held on Wimbledon Common on 3 May 1796. The King is flanked by his son the Prince of Wales on his right hand and his brother the Duke of York on his left (on the right of the picture).
