Simon Packe

Simon Packe was one of the Portsmouth Captains who refused to allow Catholic Irishmen to be placed in his Company, in Princess Anne of Denmark’s Regiment of Foot (later the King’s Regiment). This contravened the order of his Colonel the Duke of Berwick so he and five other Company Captains, including the CO, Hon John Beaumont, were arrested and placed in front of a court martial resulting in the dismissal of all six officers. But they were restored to their rank in 1688 under King William. Beaumont was appointed Colonel of the Regiment and Simon Pack was promoted to lieutenant-colonel and appointed commanding officer.
