Middlesex Duke of Cambridge’s Hussars, Yeomanry Cavalry

Officers in Camp 1912

The officers of the Middlesex Hussars pose in camp for their annual eight-day training. The newly issued khaki service dress is worn here. It is the first pattern that had collars buttoned to the neck. The rank badges had been moved from the shoulder to the sleeve. Most of them wear the khaki forage cap but the dark green forage cap is worn by the more senior officers, with a white covering for the summer months. Black arm bands are in evidence. King Edward VII had died in 1910 and the Duke of Cambridge died in 1904, rather too far on the past, so perhaps the mourning was for someone else.
