Middlesex Duke of Cambridge’s Hussars, Yeomanry Cavalry

Drum Banner

This photo was published in Tradition magazine in the 1970s. The caption says that the cloth is green and the embroidery gold. The crown has crimson velvet cushions and the garter is in red. The inscription on the garter reads: PRO ARIS ET FOCIS. MIDDLESEX YEOMANRY. Presumably the VR cypher in the middle is also on a red background. One of the cyphers in the corners is MYC, repeated in the opposite corner. The other is indecipherable. It would be reasonable to suppose that it had the initial DOC for Duke of Cambridge’s but this is not the case. Perhaps the banner dates before 1884 when the title was conferred.
