Middlesex Duke of Cambridge’s Hussars, Yeomanry Cavalry

Drum Major c1965

This photo is of two NCOs named Miller. The Drum Major is Staff Sergeant R L Miller and the shorter man is Sergeant T L Miller. They wear the no.1 dress of the 47th Signals Regiment, Royal Signals (Middlesex Yeomanry). The assumption is that they have green tunics with blue trousers. The trousers appear to have red stripes down the side, although this is different from the brighter gold stripes in the other photos of this period in the 1960s. They have cloth waist-belts of the same colour as the tunics. The Drum Major has a regimental sash over his shoulder which is green with the embroidered badge of the Middlesex Yeomanry. The sash is edged with gold lace and has two small drum sticks attached. He has a green plaited cord which loops from his top button to his right shoulder, finished in a hanging tassel. This partly obscures his four gold stripes worn on the right arm only. Above the stripes is an embroidered Elizabethan crown (not visible). He has a medal which is probably a Coronation medal from 1953. the peaked forage caps are green with a red cap-band and Middlesex badge. Their collar badges are Royal Signals.
