Green Howards MI Company 1901

Officers and men of the Mounted Infantry Company of the Green Howards photographed in South Africa in 1901. The seated figures are officers but their names are not known. There were several officers serving with the MI at various times in 1901 and 1902, Captain Hartley, Captain Holmes, Lieutenant T W Stansfeld, Lieut M H Nevile, Lieut W G Tarbet and Lieut M R Liddon. Four of the officers seated at the front of the group are wearing leather gaiters. The man seated on the left may be an officer wearing puttees like the men. The others are mostly NCOs. This photo may have been taken at Dullstroom where the Yorkshire Company was based for much of the time in 1901.  They all look smartly turned out, clean-shaven and well equipped so this may have been a time when a fresh supply of uniforms etc had arrived.
