African Troops

This 1943 photograph shows East African troops embarking on a ship to sail to Ceylon and join the British war effort against the Japanese in Asia. African soldiers served all over the British Empire and once the threat from German and Italian forces had been removed in Africa, forces could be redeployed elsewhere.
