Alfred Milner

Alfred Milner was instrumental in helping to provoke the Boer War, in the conduct of the war and then in the reconstruction and reconciliation after the war! He was later censured by Parliament for failing to protect Chinese Coolies from excessive punishments and beatings. He had been instrumental in allowing Chinese labour to be imported to South Africa to deal with the labour shortage in the gold mines immediately after the Boer War.
