This was an old German fort enclosed by four walls to a height of 12 foot and two large rooms faced into an inner courtyard. It was built by the Germans whilst challenging local Wakinga tribes who were reluctant to accept German sovereignty. Nearby was a telegraph relay station. Legend had it that a young German officer, overcome by the sense of isolation, hung himself from a beam in one of the rooms. |
