Taken from a 1899 issue of punch, this cartoon is playing on the popular prejudices of the day. It uses the child's lack of social etiquette and understanding to plant an irresistible pun on the hapless Captain Brown. By withstanding the British forces, the Boers became an open target that anyone could use as the butt of any joke. |
