Antoine Cadillac

Antoine Cadillac continued the exploration of the Great Lakes and waterways of the North American interior. In this picture he can be seen landing at the place where Detroit will be established. Detroit is French for Straits, the formal name of the settlement was Fort Pont-Chartrain but most everyone referred to it as Detroit and the name eventually stuck.
