Middle Eastern Mandates

This map shows how the allies attempted to redraw the maps of the Middle East to their own advantage. On paper, the British and French acquired huge new areas of responsibility but in reality they were hardly greeted as liberators by the subject peoples. Many of the problems of the Middle East stem from this period of European influence on their status and boundaries in the inter-war years.
