Other Ranks' Helmet, post 1871


This view of the 1871 helmet for other ranks shows the shape of the heavy cavalry helmet more effectively. The skull of the helmet was made of brass and looked very similar to the pattern worn by officers and warrant officers. The most obvious difference being that the badge had a silver metal 7 in the middle instead of the VR cypher. The helmet badge was plainer than that of the officers' helmet. The black and white horse-hair falling plume is shown to good effect in this photo, and the ear rosettes holding the chin-chain can be seen.
