Captain Phillips

Phillips is the officer on the horse dressed in uniform but wearing a civilian coat over the top. He can also be seen in Officers and NCOs in the Crimea as the officer reading to his fellow officers. The officer standing by him is Lieutenant Yates of the 11th Hussars. The 8th Hussars had a single stripe down their trousers as per Dress Regulations, but the 11th had a double stripe which, in the following year became regulation for all the hussars. The horse is not the type of charger that cavalry officers were accustomed to.
