Edward Seager

Seager was one of the very few cavalry colonels to have risen from the ranks. He enlisted in 1830 and became adjutant in 1841 at the age of 28. He reached the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in April 1859 and commanded the 8th Hussars, most notably in India, until 1865. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-General and died in March 1883.

This striking photo is of Seager, taken several years earlier, as a captain. He is in full dress probably around 1850.
