Officer's Helmet Badge 1878-81

The blue cloth covered helmet replaced the shako in 1878 and had this universal pattern gilt badge which, apart from the central device, became the last full dress helmet badge. In 1881 the numerals 31 were replaced by the star and arms of Guildford when the regiment was titled East Surreys. And in 1901 the King's Crown replaced that of Queen Victoria.
