The Royal Irish Regiment

Corsica and Elba

Corsica, at the bottom of the map, clearly shows Bastia on the east side of the finger, while Calvi is on the northwest of the island. The island of Elba is close to the Italian mainland, about 40 miles east of Bastia. Piombino is on a promontory of the Italian coast and Campiglia, not marked on the map, about 8 miles northeast of there. Leghorn (Livorno) is further up the coast almost in the Gulf of Genoa.
